Ride For Rose – Land’s End to John o’Groats
ASIC’s CEO, Lee Hammond, has undertaken various challenges over the years in order to help raise money for the Rose Education Foundation. He has undertaken full and half marathons, muti-day runs, long distance bike rides and even a triathlon which have all been both mentally and physically challenging.
This year is no exception with his challenge being to cycle from Land’s End to John o’ Groats (LEJOG) in order to raise money for the Rose Education Foundation’s Hearing Aid Appeal for Sotpattana School for the Deaf, Thailand. This challenge will cover almost 950 miles and he will travel the full length of the country in 9 days.
This challenge is being planned for May 2017, although confirmation of dates will be announced shortly via the Facebook page and through the Instagram account
About Sotpattana School for the Deaf
Lee and his family had visited Sotpattana School for the Deaf back in June 2014 and seen first-hand the valuable work they do in supporting all of their students, many of whom are local children from poor families or from the Pattaya Orphanage based on the same site.
In 2013 the Rose Foundation covered the cost of new FM Digital hearing aids for many of the children at the school. Made individually to fit the specific shape of each child’s ear, these are also linked to a teaching programme that teaches lip reading skills. Siemens, the manufacturers of the hearing aids, generously matched the donation that the Rose Foundation made so that more could be purchased.
At the time, however, we were only able to supply 10 hearing aids, despite there being 36 children currently requiring them at the school.
Since purchasing the original 10 hearing aids we have been able to see first-hand the improvement this has made to the children’s communication. Student’s speech and lip reading skills have rapidly improved as well as their engagement in speech therapy sessions and their academic classes.
Please support Lee and The Rose Foundation’s Hearing Aid Appeal and the Ride for Rose challenge so that we can supply more hearing aids to the school.
